Young Parents Matter
Young Parents Matter is a project funded by the Big Lottery that seeks to raise awareness of the issues faced by young parents in Northern Ireland and improve the information and resources available to support them.
The project team consists of members of Young NCB NI’s Engage ‘N’ You group of young mums and dads who were worried about the difficulties young parents experience and the lack of information on offer about their rights and services.
After carrying out a review of the information available from organisations in Northern Ireland that deal with young parents, the team will develop a young parent friendly resource of their own.
Engage ‘N’ You media training
As part of our work with the Engage programme, we are supporting the Big Lottery Fund Northern Ireland to deliver media training to young people aged 16+.
The training is co-delivered by members of Engage ‘N’ You – a group of young people whom we work with to ensure make sure that help offered to organisations through Engage makes a real and lasting difference for young people – and is aimed at young people who have a story to tell about how the Big Lottery Funded project has affected their lives.
The training will prepare the young people for their role as ambassadors for their organisations.
Kilcooley Early Intervention Focus Groups
Commissioned by the Public Health Agency (PHA), we are carrying out a series of research and consultation exercises to inform planning for an early intervention community in Kilcooley, North Down and Ards.
We developed a topic guide for Primary and Post Primary ages and met with young people aged 8–21 who live in Kilcooley to explore their experiences of local education and activities for children and young people, as well as how they think Kilcooley could be made a better place to grow up in.
Their views were fed back to the early intervention locality planning group.
