The All Party Parliamentary Group for Children (APPGC) brings together MPs and members of the House of Lords who are committed to improving policy affecting children and young people.
The work of the APPGC is informed by the views and experiences of children and young people who are regularly invited to speak in Parliament alongside Ministers, parliamentarians and the children’s voluntary sector.
The APPGC is chaired by Tim Loughton MP and Baroness Howarth. Details of other members of the Group can be found here.
Inquiry into children's social care
The APPGC carries out regular inquiries on current issues in children’s policy. Most recently the Group has been looking at children’s social care.
In July 2018, the APPGC published results of a 10-month inquiry into the causes of different threshold levels for accessing children’s social care services. 'Storing Up Trouble' found that vulnerable children and families face a postcode lottery in the levels of support offered to them by services.
This followed the Group’s longer 2016/17 Inquiry into children’s social care services in England. Among other things, the Inquiry report, ‘No Good Options’ found significant variation in the number of children accessing children’s social care services across the country.
Past inquiries
In 2013-15, the APPGC held an Inquiry into Children and the Police, which led to significant changes to policy and police practice with children.
